Brostrand Nets Two Goals In 12-6 Lacrosse Setback at Drexel

PHILADELPHIA - Caitlyn Brostrand scored two goals to lead La Salle women's lacrosse in a 12-6 setback at crosstown rival Drexel on Wednesday. Lauren McDermott and Kelly Furman added a goal and assist apiece.

The Explorers fall to 1-1, while the Dragons improve to 2-0.


Kelli Joran led the home squad with five points on three goals and two assists. Kelly Palace added three goals.

Drexel rattled off a 5-1 run to open the game, starting with a Joran goal 47 seconds into the contest.

Less than two minutes later, Brostrand scored her first goal to knot the game at 1-1 on an assist from Lauren McDermott, but the Dragons responded with four straight from four different players to take the 5-1 lead.

The Explorers got back within two at 5-3 thanks to a Melanie Sarcinello goal at 14:01 and a McDermott score on a Furman assist at 9:48.

Joran followed up with back-to-back goals for her second and third of the game to put the home squad up 7-3 before Brostrand found the back of the net again with 17 seconds remaining until halftime.

Drexel's Palace scored her second and third goals of the game to open second half scoring at the 21:11 and 20:52 mark.

Neither team scored again until the eight-minute mark when Maggie O'Ferrall scored her first season goal to bring La Salle within 9-5.

Amanda Norcini hit a goal for the Dragons at 6:31 and Furman responded for the Explorers with 4:05 remaining. Drexel's Emily Duffey rounded out the scoring with two goals in a 24-second span for the final 12-6 score.

Senior keeper Maura Malone suffered the loss in goal, making two stops. Drexel's Teresha Bradley picked up the win, stopping seven shots.

The Explorers return to action on Saturday when they head to Washington, D.C., for a 1 p.m. tilt at Howard.
