Lacrosse Ties School Record With 22 Goals In 22-4 Romp Over Howard

Box Score WASHINGTON, D.C. - Rookie attacker Katelyn Fay erupted for four goals and two assists to lead the La Salle lacrosse squad to a 22-4 romp at Howard on Saturday afternoon in Washington, D.C.

The 22 goals ties a school record, set twice previously. La Salle scored 22 goals on Howard back in 2000 and against Lafayette in 2007.

The Explorers improve to 2-1, while the Bison drop to 0-4.

In addition to Fay's six points, Jackie Roebuck added three goals and an assist and Caitlyn Brostrand added three goals. Erin McCabe and Lauren McDermott added two goals and an assist apiece.

Five more Explorers recorded two points. Katie Marasco drained two goals, and Lauren Ignacio, Claire Andrews and Alanna Diffendal added a goal and assist. Kelly Furman assisted on two scores.

Maddy Collins, Katie Fonte and Melanie Sarcinello added a goal apiece to round out the Explorer scoring.

Senior keeper Maura Malone made five saves while picking up the win.

The Explorers held a 9-4 halftime advantage. After the fourth Howard goal, the squad rattled off 18 unanswered goals.

"I am really happy with the total team effort today," Head Coach Candace Taglianetti Bossell said. "We had many players earn their "first statistics" and we couldn't be happier for them. It was great to see our team come together as a group and clean up our play and show what we are capable of in the second half especially."

"We are really proud of Katelyn Fay," Taglianetti Bossell added. "She stepped up in a big way today and its exciting to see her game develop this early in the season."


The Explorers return to action on Wednesday (2/27), when they host Long Island at McCarthy Stadium at 7 p.m.
