The Match-Up
The Explorers and Dukes meet for the 32nd time in the series that dates back to 1983. The Explorers own a 17-14 edge in the series, while the Dukes have won the last five. The two squads met last season in Pittsburgh, with Duquesne winning 82-52. The Dukes' Orsi Szecsi came off the bench for 25 points to lead four Dukes in double figures.
Jordan Mosley led the Explorers off the bench with 10 points. In last year's meeting,
Nikki Ortiz came off the bench to pull down a career-best seven rebounds, including six offensive boards, which still holds as her personal best.
Scouting the Explorers
La Salle played a strong first half against Charlotte, one of the league's front-runners, on Sunday by trailing just three at the half after rallying from down 11.
Ebonee Jones led the Explorers with 20 points and
Shanel Harrison added 16, including going 8-for-10 from the free throw line, in their Senior Day game.
Shanel Harrison has led the Explorers offensively and defensively through much of the Atlantic 10 season. She has scored in double figures in the last 10 straight games, averaging 16.8 points per game in that span. She has also pulled down 7.7 rebounds in that 10-game span, and recorded two double-doubles in that time. She ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10 in scoring against conference opponents, draining 15.2 ppg. She also ranks in the top 15 in overall rebounding, offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds, as well as steals per game.
Ebonee Jones has had strong offensive outputs, and is up to 10.7 ppg after the 20-point breakout against Charlotte on Sunday. Jones ranks 16th in the A-10 by scoring 12.0 ppg against conference opponents and her 82.2 percent clip at the free throw line in A-10 play ranks her fifth in the league.
The Explorers score 54.0 ppg, while yielding 62.7 to opponents. The team ranks fourth in the A-10 with 4.7 blocked shots per game and is in the top half in steals with 8.1 thefts per game.
Scouting the Dukes
Duquesne currently sits fifth in the Atlantic 10 standings and has already recorded a 20-win season. The Dukes are coming off of a 53-44 win at UMass, in which Jocelyn Floyd set the school's all-time steals record. Floyd also scored a game-high 18 points, and recorded game-bests in rebounds (9) and steals (7). With one more win, the senior class becomes Duquesne's winningest class in program history.
The Dukes are led by Wumi Agunbiade, who averages a team-best 13.0 points per game and pulls down a team-best 7.2 boards per game.
Floyd is second on the squad in both categories with 9.5 ppg and 6.5 rpg while leading the team and the Atlantic 10 in steals with 5.2 per game.
As a team, Duquesne grabs a league-best 14.1 steals per game. The Dukes average 61.3 ppg while holding opponents to 51.2 ppg. The +10.1 ppg scoring margin ranks third in the Atlantic 10.
