Three Explorers Honored At Philadelphia Soccer Six Annual Banquet

PHILADELPHIA - Kevin Pink was named the John McAdams Academic Player of the Year and John McCarthy and Joe Farrell earned All-Star honors, announced at the annual Philadelphia Soccer Six banquet.

Pink was honored as the city's Academic Player of the Year as an impact player with the highest grade point average. The defensive midfielder earned NSCAA Scholar East Region honors and was named the team's Bill Wilkinson Academic Player of the Year at the team's postseason banquet. He started the final 14 games of the season, tallied the game-winning goal in a 2-1 triumph over Long Island and assisted on the game winner in a 1-0 win at St. Bonaventure. He also helped on the defensive end, assisting the La Salle defenders in recording nine shutouts this season. Pink sports a team-best GPA of 3.87 in the Integrated Science, Business & Technology program.

McCarthy added another postseason honor to his resume as he was named to the Soccer Six All-Star Team. The junior goalkeeper was a Second Team All-Atlantic 10 pick and NSCAA First Team All-Region pick, in addition to NSCAA Scholar All-American and Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area. McCarthy's record-setting season saw him break La Salle's all-time career shutout record and all-time single-season shutout record en route to helping the squad to its third straight Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance. McCarthy finished the season nationally ranked in a number of categories while also leading the Atlantic 10. He was tops in the conference and eighth nationally with a .844 save percentage and first in the A-10 (fourth nationally) with 114 total saves.

Farrell was also named to the Soccer Six All-Star Team as well as the Soccer Six All-Rookie squad. He finished second on the team with 14 points in his rookie campaign, scoring five goals and assisting on four more. He scored the game winner in overtime in the season-opening win against Drexel for the first of his three game-winning tallies. He netted the tying goal in the Lafayette draw before scoring the game winner at Lehigh. Farrell scored two in conference play, including the game winner in a 4-0 win at George Washington and adding an insurance goal in the win at Duquesne that clinched a spot in the A-10 Tournament.
