PHILADELPHIA - Senior goalkeeper Maura Malone earned Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Week honors for her strong play in the team's lone contest last week against Central Connecticut State.

Malone recorded her seventh win of the season on Saturday in an 8-7 overtime triumph over the Blue Devils. She anchored the La Salle defense while the squad was playing two-men-down in the final two minutes of regulation and in overtime. She intercepted an 8-meter free position shot to secure the win in overtime. Malone recorded seven saves in the win.

The win was the sixth straight for the Explorers, who moved to a program-best 7-1 record through eight games. The Explorers are now 8-1 thanks to a win on Tuesday at Lafayette.

The Explorers return to action on March 30, when they host Massachusetts in the Atlantic 10 opener at 12 p.m. in McCarthy Stadium.
