FC Toronto Release
PHILADELPHIA - La Salle soccer alum Ryan Richter signed with FC Toronto of Major League Soccer, announced on Monday.
Richter, a 6'2 defender, was acquired from the USL Pro club Charleston Battery, where he competed in the 2012 season. He was part of a squad that won the 2012 USL Pro Championship.
A year prior, Richter spent time with the Philadelphia Union after being selected in the first round of the 2011 MLS Supplemental Draft.
"I'm happy to join Toronto and I'm looking forward to playing for a strong team in a great city with an excellent fan base," Richter said. "I am ready and excited for a successful season as part of this club."
Richter enjoyed a successful run with the Explorers from 2007-10, capping off his career with Atlantic 10 Offensive Player of the Year and Student-Athlete of the Year honors as well as First Team Scholar All-America from the NSCAA in 2010. He led the conference with 14 goals and 30 points in 2010 to lead the Explorers to a second place finish in the Atlantic 10 and to the league championship final.
