Scouting the Explorers
The Explorers are 4-1 after winning their last two at home, cruising past Long Island 21-5 before edging Delaware 13-12.
Caitlyn Brostrand has recorded 10 points combined in the last two outings, with five goals against Delaware and four goals and an assist against Long Island. She leads the squad with 15 goals on the season.
Lauren McDermott added four goals and an assist against the Blue Hens. She has 11 goals and four assists on the season.
Maura Malone has seen the majority of time in goal, and made a career-best 14 stops against the Blue Hens on Friday.
Scouting the Bulldogs
Fresno State has not played since its season opener on Feb. 17, when the Bulldogs knocked off Presbyterian, 17-14. Marcy Levatino came off the bench for seven goals and Anjelica Fuccillo added four goals and two assists.
Levatino earned Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Offensive Player of the Week honors for her performance, and Fuccillo earned MPSF Rookie of the Week honors.
The Bulldogs return 10 seniors this season, looking to improve upon their 3-10 record in 2012. Junior Briana Hetherington is the leading returning scorer from last year, netting 16 goals in 2012. Senior Natalie Harrington was last year's assists leader.
Scouting the Aztecs
San Diego State enters Friday's contest with a 2-1 record. The Aztecs have not played since Feb. 22, when they knocked off Saint Mary's 19-6. They opened their season with a two-game swing in Florida, dropping their season opener 15-5 to Jacksonville before defeating Stetson 18-1.
Michaela Jarvis leads the Aztec offense so far with 14 points on six goals and eight assists. Bailey Ewing is the leading goal scorer with eight goals, plus three assists for a total of 11 points.
Sammy Slattery has handled the majority of the goalkeeping duties, playing 150 of a possible 180 minutes so far. She records an 8.40 goals against average.
The Aztecs have two opponents in common with the Explorers, as they host Long Island on Sunday and will also host Temple on March 16.
