Scouting the Explorers
La Salle searches for its first conference win of the season when the Explorers head down Route 1 to city foe Saint Joseph's on Friday. The Explorers dropped a 19-13 decision to Richmond last Sunday, with
Caitlyn Brostrand and
Katelyn Fay leading the squad with three goals apiece.
Brostrand leads the team and is tied for third in the Atlantic 10 in scoring, averaging 3.00 goals per game. She has recorded a total of 36 goals along with two assists for 38 points. She has also recorded at least two points in every contest this season and at least two goals in 11 of the 12 games this year, along with two five-goal outputs.
Lauren McDermott is second on the squad with 22 goals and seven assists for 29 points, despite being held to one point in the previous two games. She recorded a season-high four goals against Delaware, and has recorded multi-goal games in eight of the 10 contests in which she found the back of the net.
Melanie Sarcinello rounds out the top three point-scorers with 22 points on 16 goals and six assists, and is coming off of a two-goal game against Richmond. Rookie
Katelyn Fay has 17 goals and three assists for 20 points, while four other Explorers also have at least 10 points on the season.
Sarcinello is the team leader in draw controls with 27, while
Erin McCabe also aids the defensive effort with a team-best 15 caused turnovers.
Maura Malone has seen most of the time in goal, sporting a 10.56 goals against average and a .400 save percentage in almost 700 minutes of play.
Scouting the Hawks
Saint Joseph's picked up its first A-10 win of the season on Sunday, dropping St. Bonaventure 12-7 behind four goals from Meghan McDevitt. The Hawks previously lost to Duquesne, 16-1, and were edged by Temple, 7-6, in the league opener.
McDevitt leads the squad in scoring on the season with 25 goals and 18 assists for 43 points. Val Paolucci is second in points with 30 on 21 goals and nine assists. Julia Falcone is second in goals scored with 23, and has also added 15 caused turnovers on the defensive side, good for second on the team. Abby Ananian rounds out the top four scorers with 26 points on 15 goals and 11 assists, and has recorded a team-best 37 draw controls.
Genevieve Giblin is the primary goalkeeper for the squad, recording a 7.64 goals against average in 635 minutes of play and saving 37.7 percent of shots faced.
Scouting the Owls
The Owls enter with an identical 8-4 overall record but are 3-0 in A-10 play so far, with wins over St. Joe's, St. Bonaventure and Duquesne. They topped the Dukes 16-9 in their last outing on Sunday.
Temple has four players with 20+ points, led by Stephany Parcell's 40 points on 26 goals and 14 assists. Charlotte Swavola leads in total goals with 27, and along with six assists is up to 33 points on the year. Jaymie Tabor and Rachel Schwaab have recorded 21 points apiece, and Kellee Pace is just under the 20-point mark with 19 points on 17 goals and two assists.
Swavola and Parcell lead in draw controls with 31 and 28, respectively, while Kara Stroup helps lead the defensive effort with a team-high 12 caused turnovers.
Meghan Clothier has started all 12 games in goal, recording a 9.36 goals against average and a .410 save percentage in 544 minutes. Jagi Kakalecik has also seen significant time in goal off the bench, recording an 8.89 GAA and .345 save percentage in 128 minutes of action.
Next Up
The Explorers close out the regular season next weekend with road trips to Duquesne and St. Bonaventure. The team plays the Dukes on Friday (4/19) at 4 p.m., and takes on the Bonnies in the regular season finale on Sunday (4/21) at 1 p.m.
