PHILADELPHIA - Women's basketball seniors
Brittany Wilson and
Shanel Harrison were named to the All-Big 5 First Team and Second Team, respectively, announced on Tuesday.
Wilson, a two-time All-Big 5 First Team pick, led the city schools in scoring this season, averaging 18.3 ppg. She hit the 20-point mark in 10 of her 20 games, and reached the 30-point mark in her final game of the season at Massachusetts before sustaining a season-ending injury. She also reached double figures in all but two contests. The 2012 Atlantic 10 All-Defensive pick also pulled down 6.5 rebounds per game, ranking second on the team, and led the squad with 1.8 steals per game.
Harrison earned All-Big 5 Second Team honors after averaging 12.6 ppg and a team-high 7.0 rpg. She was named the Big 5 Player of the Week on Jan. 28 after pouring in a career-high 29 points in a 71-55 win at Temple to snap the Owls' winning streak over the Explorers. Harrison turned it up in conference play, averaging 15.3 ppg which ranked her sixth in the Atlantic 10. She finished the season with 12 straight double-figure scoring games and recorded six double-doubles, including her first at North Carolina. She also pulled down 8.0 rebounds per outing in A-10 play, ranking 11th in the league.
The pair will be honored at the annual Big 5 banquet on April 29th at the Palestra.
Wilson is joined on the First Team by Chatilla van Grinsven (Saint Joseph's), Laura Sweeney (Villanova), Alyssa Baron (Penn) and Victoria Macaulay (Temple). Van Grinsven was tabbed the Big 5 Player of the Year.
Harrison is joined on the Second Team by Tyonna Williams (Temple), Rachel Roberts (Villanova), Natasha Cloud (Saint Joseph's) and Erin Shields (Saint Joseph's).
