Box Score

OLEAN, N.Y.  - After spotting St. Bonaventure an early 1-0 lead, the La Salle lacrosse team responded with three straight goals and never again trailed in a 15-10 win over the Bonnies in the season finale for both squads.

Katelyn Fay led the attack with a career-best five goals. Senior Lauren McDermott added four goals and classmate Melanie Sarcinello added three in their final game in an Explorer uniform. Caitlyn Brostrand drained two goals and Maggie O'Ferrall added one to round out the Explorers' scoring.

The Explorers wrapped up their season with a 10-6 record to tie last year's record for wins in a season. They conclude the Atlantic 10 schedule with a 2-5 record in league play.

Mackenzie Jordan paced St. Bonaventure (6-11, 0-7 Atlantic 10) with four goals and Erin Thomas added three.

Junior defender Kaitlin Colbridge drew the assignment of Bonnies' leading scorer Jenna Schlagenhauf, limiting Schlagenhauf to just two assists and no goals.

"We are excited to earn the win in our last game of the season," Head Coach Candace Taglianetti Bossell said. "Although we didn't achieve the success we wanted within conference, we were still able to once again match the all-time winningest season."

Thomas scored the game's first goal just under two minutes into play to give the home squad an early 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later, McDermott and Sarcinello scored 45 seconds apart to put the Explorers on top at 26:03. Fay scored her first at 24:43 to put the Explorers up 3-1.

SBU's LeighAnn Stauffer got one back at 21:25 to draw within 3-2 but the Explorers responded with three more straight to take a 6-2 lead. Sarcinello, Brostrand and McDermott scored in that span.

The Bonnies drained two goals within 22 seconds to get back within 6-4 at 9:23. McDermott drained her third goal of the game at 7:20 to push the lead back to three, but the Bonnies responded with two more to get within one at 7-6. The two teams traded goals for the remainder of the half with Fay and O'Ferrall scoring along with SBU's Jordan as the Explorers took a 9-7 lead into halftime.

The early second half was a defensive battle as neither team scored for nearly 10 minutes. Fay broke up the scoreless drought with a goal at 20:43, Brostrand added her second goal about four minutes later and Fay drained her fourth two minutes after that to spot the Explorers a 12-7 lead with 14:37 remaining.

Jordan broke up the Explorers' run with a tally at 10:15. Fay scored her fifth of the game and McDermott added her fourth at 7:29 to go up 14-8. Sarcinello along with SBU's Jordan and Stauffer rounded out scoring for the final 15-10 score.

The teams were even in shots, taking 25 apiece. La Salle picked up 13 ground balls to SBU's eight, while the Bonnies won the draw control battle, 15-11. The Explorers committed a season-low three turnovers, and forced 11 Bonnie miscues including eight in the second half.

The game was the final one for the Class of 2013. "Our seniors have done so much for this program and as much as we will miss them, we are truly excited for them to embark on the next chapter of their lives," Taglianetti Bossell added.
