Brostrand, Sarcinello, Fay Earn Atlantic 10 Postseason Awards

PHILADELPHIA - Caitlyn Brostrand, Melanie Sarcinello and Katelyn Fay headline La Salle's representation on the Atlantic 10 postseason awards list, announced by the league office on Thursday. The trio helped the team to a 10-6 overall record, tying last year's all-time winningest season.

Brostrand picked up a pair of honors, being named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and earning Academic All-Conference accolades. Sarcinello also picked up a pair of awards as she earned All-Conference Second Team and Academic All-Conference. Fay, the league's two-time defending Rookie of the Week, was named to the A-10 All-Rookie Team.

"We are very excited for these three players to represent La Salle in our conference awards," Head Coach Candace Taglianetti Bossell said. "We feel that Caitlyn and Melanie are among the strongest players in the conference and it is great to see them earn the recognition.

"Katelyn had a really strong freshman season and we are excited to see her build on that in the years to come."

Brostrand was the team points leader for the second straight season, tallying 47 points on 45 goals and two assists. The sophomore midfielder supplied four game-winning goals, including in one-goal wins over Delaware (13-12) and Central Connecticut State (8-7), in addition to wins at St. Bonaventure and against Long Island. Her 2.81 goals per game ranks sixth in the Atlantic 10 and in the top 40 nationally. Brostrand scored 2+ goals in all but one game, and scored three or more in eight of this season's 16 contests, including a pair of five-goal games in wins over Delaware and Lafayette.

Brostrand, a pre-nursing major who sports 3.57 GPA, also picked up her first Academic All-Conference recognition, joining teammate Sarcinello and eight others from around the league who have at least a 3.0 and are key starters or significant reserves.

Sarcinello picked up her first all-conference honor, as she was named to the Second Team. She recorded over 100 goals in her career, and sits seventh on La Salle's all-time scoring list. She finished third on the team this season with 26 goals and eight assists for 34 points, despite being switched to defensive midfield as a senior. Sarcinello drained two game-winning goals, one at Fresno State and the other over Lafayette. She was the team leader with 36 draw controls and added 21 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers.

Sarcinello, who will graduate with a degree in Nursing, sports a 3.76 GPA and earned her second Academic All-Conference recognition. She also earned it two years ago.

Fay, the team's leading rookie scorer, was named to the All-Rookie Team this season. She earned the final two Rookie of the Week awards this season after posting 10 goals in the final two weekends of play. She drained a career-high five goals in the Explorers' 15-10 win at St. Bonaventure, scored four against Saint Joseph's and sparked the decisive nine-goal rally in a comeback win over Temple. Fay finished the season with 27 goals and three assists for 30 points, and recorded a blistering .628 shot percentage. She also tallied the game winners over Mount St. Mary's and Howard. She recorded eight multiple-goal games in her first season, including a pair of four-goal games in addition to her five-goal output in the season finale.
