PHILADELPHIA – John McCarthy and Jason Plumhoff have been selected to the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference team, the conference office announced today. In addition, the Explorers were picked to finish fifth of the conference's 12 teams. Both votes were conducted by the school's head coaches.

McCarthy was recently named to the MAC Hermann Preseason Watch List and enters his senior season as the program's all-time leader in shutouts (23). He is a two-time second-team all-Atlantic 10 choice and was a first-team NSCAA All-Region selection in 2012. Last season, the Cinnaminson, N.J. native ranked in the top-15 in the nation in saves (114), save percentage (.844), and saves per game (5.70).

Plumhoff was named to the Premier Development League (PDL) All-League team for his outstanding play over summer. He was one of three midfielders to earn the nod in a league of 64 teams and more than 1,200 players. The rising senior led the Blue and Gold in points (18) last season en route to being named a third-team NSCAA All-Region selection. Entering his senior campaign, Plumhoff has started 53 games for the Explorers over the past three seasons.

"It just shows that if you put in the work you have a chance to be successful and stand out at the end of the day," Plumhoff said. 

La Salle was one of only three schools to have more than one representative on the list.

The Blue and Gold round out the top five in the team voting, preceded by only Saint Louis, VCU, newcomer George Mason, and Dayton. An A-10 tournament berth this season would mark the fourth consecutive for head coach Pat Farrell's squad.
