PHILADELPHIA - Four Explorers placed in the top-10 at the Friends Big 5 Invitational on Friday afternoon at the Belmont Plateau en route to a first place team finish. Zach Sullivan paced the Blue and Gold with an 18:52.22 (6K), good for a third place finish (74-runner field). As a team, La Salle took first in the event, scoring 29 team points.
Nico Greco (18:53.38), Vince Perozze (18:53.60), and Ian Barnhill (18:55.02) were close behind, coming in fifth, sixth, and eighth, respectively.Â
Francis Ferruzzi clocked a 19:06.12 and Nick Ross crossed at 19:06.59, filing in 12th and 13th. In all, 21 Explorers competed in the 6K, with 10 runners finishing in the top half of the field.Â
"We ran a very strong race," head coach Dan Ireland said. "I was very pleased at how we stayed patient early in the race and than ran extremely well over the last one-k. Ian Barnhill and freshman Fran Ferruzzi ran outstanding races. I am very pleased where the guys are at this point in the season."Â
The Explorers will run again on Thursday, September 26 at the Main Line Invitational.Â
