La Salle's Offensive Onslaught Earns Them 4-0 Victory At Drexel

Box Score PHILADELPHIA—La Salle women's soccer nets four goals, including three second-half goals and two in the final four minutes of play, to secure a 4-0 victory over cross-town rival Drexel.  With the win, the Explorers improve to 8-2-0 on the season.

"It was a great team win from the bench to our players on the field," head coach Paul Royal said.  "It was definitely the best half of soccer we've played this year, and not because of the goals, but more so because of our selfless play to all areas of the field."

La Salle junior Kerri Aiken scored the first goal of her collegiate career in the 28th minute to give the Explorers the 1-0 lead.  Aiken landed a header on goal and past Drexel goalkeeper Eve Badana off a restart from the foot of Maryam Huseini

Huseini would hand out another assist in the second half, feeding teammate Renee Washington in the 67th minute for the 2-0 lead.

Freshman Marykate Bateman would be the next Explorer on the board, scoring her first collegiate goal off a double assist from Washington and teammate Anna Dolhansky.

Washington and Dolhansky would reconnect to assist the fourth and final goal of the night, feeding Kelsey Haycook in the 88th minute to secure the 4-0 victory.

The Explorers more than tripled their shot total in the second half, recording 16 shots compared to five in the first frame.

"I give credit to Drexel," said Royal. "They caused us some issues in the first half with their pressure and athleticism.  Once our speed of play and movement began clicking we were able to open the game and find great opportunities in the final third.  It was also great to see our defense preserve another shutout."

The shutout is the fourth of the season for junior goalkeeper Katie Getzinger, who improved her season record to 5-1-0 with the win.

The Explorers return to action on Tuesday, October 1, when they travel to Princeton to avenge the overtime loss they suffered at the hand of the Tigers a season ago.
