Alfredo Santana Honored At Philadelphia SportsWriters Dinner



CHERRY HILL, N.J. - La Salle distance runner Alfredo Santana was honored at the 110th annual Philadelphia SportsWriters Dinner, held on Monday at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, N.J.



Santana is one of two athletes in Atlantic 10 history to earn Performer of the Meet honors at the cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track conference championships. He placed first at the cross country championships in 2011 and followed up with a runner-up finish in 2012. 



His 2012 cross country season garnered NCAA Mid-Atlantic All-Region status along with being named IC4A All-East Region.



The Nueva Esperanza product earned gold in the 3K and 5K at the 2013 indoor championships and won the 5K and 10K at the 2013 outdoor championships. Santana qualified for the NCAA Preliminary Championships in the 5K.



Santana has been named A-10 Academic All-Conference in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track.  



The Philadelphia SportsWriters Dinner is the oldest of its kind in the nation and its featured guests on Monday included Phillies manager Ryne Sandberg, boxer Bernard Hopkins, Eagles wide receiver Jason Avant, former flyers goalkeeper Bernie Parent and many others.
