Kelsey Haycook scored twice and freshman
Kristin Haugstad added a goal in the 69
th minute as the La Salle women's soccer (5-4-2, 1-0) team handled the George Washington Colonials (7-3, 0-1) 3-0 at McCarthy Stadium on Friday night.
Haycook got things going quickly with a goal in the 4
th minute, chipping the goalkeeper after assists from
Hunter Filippo and
Anna Dolhansky. The Point Pleasant, N.J. native added a score in the 50
th minute, beating the keeper to the lower left corner on a cross from
Jessika Kagan to give the Explorers a 2-0 lead.
Haugstad gave La Salle a three-goal lead when she pushed a header into the upper right corner on a serve from
Hunter Filippo in the 69
th minute for her third score of the season. Filippo, a redshirt sophomore, collected the first two assists of her career in the win.
Goalkeeper
Jessica Wiggins registered six saves to earn her third shutout of the season, and faced a total of nine shots on the night. The Explorers tallied a total of 15 shots, including nine on target, and controlled corner kicks 4-2.
The Explorers continue their homestand on Sunday as they host VCU (5-3-3, 1-0), who defeated Fordham 1-0 in the Bronx to open league play on Friday night.
