PHILADELPHIA - La Salle field hockey senior midfielder Maddy Tettelbach has been named this week's Atlantic 10 Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.

"I am so happy that Maddy was recognized as A-10 Player of the Week after her performance against Richmond," Head Coach Michelle Marks said. "She created a lot of opportunities for us out of the midfield and showed a lot of poise in our attacking end. She's very deserving of this award."

Tettelbach was clutch on Sunday, draining two goals in the second half as the Explorers came from behind to post a huge upset win over Richmond that is likely to have playoff implications. After the Explorers went down 1-0 seconds before halftime, Tettelbach hit the equalizer just over five minutes into the second half by driving home a rebounded shot. She then hit the game winner with 2:37 remaining in regulation as the Explorers posted their biggest win in years. Richmond was picked second in the A-10 preseason poll and came into the game with an unblemished league record.

With the win on Sunday, the Explorers remained perfect at home by winning their fifth home game in as many opportunities this season. The squad also defeated VCU 2-1 on Friday afternoon for a 2-0 weekend.

"I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of the way our team has been playing this season," Tettelbach said. "We have so much heart and it truly shows in the way we play for each other every game. I am so blessed to be a part of this great team and can't wait to see what successes will come for us the rest of the season."

Tettelbach and the rest of the Explorers have been silencing the preseason pundits, as the squad was picked to finish eighth of nine teams in the Atlantic 10 preseason poll. After starting the season 0-3, they have gone 6-1 in the last seven contests and jumped out to a first-place 3-1 A-10 record.

The squad tangles with a fellow first-place team on Friday, as the Explorers travel to St. Francis (Pa.) for a 3pm contest. Both squads are 3-1, as the Red Flash dropped their first game of the season this weekend to Massachusetts.
