Women's Basketball Heads To Fordham On Saturday

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball squad  will dig out of the snow to travel up to New York this weekend as the Explorers play at Fordham on Saturday at 2 p.m.

La Salle owns a 34-9 advantage in the series that dates back to 1984. The Explorers have won three of the last four, though the Rams took a 69-49 decision last season at Tom Gola Arena.

Scouting the Explorers
The Explorers put on a terrific shooting night at Saint Joseph's on Wednesday, but the Hawks shot just a bit better to take a 76-63 decision at Hagan Arena. The Explorers, who had been shooting at or below 30 percent recently, went over 44 percent from the field against the Hawks but could not overcome a 16-for-19 Hawk showing at the free throw line.

Alicia Cropper drained 20 points, while Micahya Owens added 15 and Leeza Burdgess chipped in 13.

Cropper upped her season average to 14.0 ppg to lead the squad in scoring, and is ranked sixth in the Atlantic 10 by scoring 15.8 ppg in league games. She adds 5.3 rebounds and has cracked the A-10's top 15 list with 4.8 defensive boards per game. She is also ranked in the Atlantic 10 top 15 in four other categories as well, including assists (3.2; 14th), 3-point field goals made (1.9; 9th), assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3; 12th) and minutes played (36.3; 4th).

Owens is currently averaging 13.3 ppg on the season and is also on the Atlantic 10 top 15 list with 13.6 ppg in league games. Owens adds 4.8 boards per game.

Burdgess is averaging 9.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Her 3.3 offensive boards per game in league games ranks her second in the Atlantic 10. She also cracked the top 15 by averaging just shy of one blocked shot per game.

Jasmine Alston continues to top the A-10 in steals per game in league games, grabbing 2.2 per outing. She is also tied for sixth with 3.9 assists per game since the start of A-10 play. She also chips in 6.0 ppg and 5.2 rpg.

As a team, the Explorers continue to rank first in scoring defense, allowing conference opponents just 55.8 ppg. On the flip side, the Explorers are 12th in scoring offense, draining just 56.8 per outing. The squad is also tops in the A-10 in field goal percent defense by limiting opponents to 36.9 percent overall and also rank first by keeping opponents to just 21.0 percent from long range.

Scouting the Rams
The Rams overcame a 13-point second half deficit to force overtime, but fell 78-77 in extra time at Richmond on Tuesday. Erin Rooney scored a team-high 22 points and a pair of Rams - Emily Tapio and Mary Nwachukwu - added 17 apiece.

The Rams enter the game with an 8-4 record in A-10 play and 19-6 overall.

Rooney leads a trio of Rams averaging double figures on the season. She drains 18.5 ppg, second in the A-10 only to Robyn Parks of VCU. She is also ranked fourth in the A-10 by dishing out 5.2 assists per game and is also in the top 10 with 7.6 rebounds per game.

Abigail Corning adds 13.6 ppg along with 6.8 rebounds. Her 4.7 helpers per game rank sixth in the Atlantic 10.

Hannah Missry rounds out the top three scorers by chipping in 10.2 ppg.

The Rams rank second as a team in the A-10, dishing out 16.5 assists per game. They are also the number one scoring defense overall, limiting opponents to 58.5 ppg, although they have been giving up 61.6 in conference play to rank sixth.

The Rams score 69.6 points on the offensive end, and are shooting 44.8 percent from the field overall.
