Women's Basketball Earns No. 7 Seed In Atlantic 10 Championship; Will Face No. 10 Saint Louis In First Round


PHILADELPHIA - On the heels of wrapping up its best Atlantic 10 Conference season since 1996-97, the La Salle women's basketball squad captured the No. 7 seed in this week's Atlantic 10 Championship, announced by the conference office on Sunday evening. The squad finished in a tie with VCU with identical 9-7 records, winning the tiebreaker thanks to the Explorers' win over the Rams in January.

The Explorers will play No. 10 Saint Louis in the first round, with the game set for 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 6. The winner will play No. 2 St. Bonaventure on Friday at 5 p.m.

The second round winner will advance to Saturday's semifinal round at 1:30 p.m. The championship final is slated for Sunday at 11 a.m. The semifinal round will be televised on CBS Sports Network and the title game will be televised on ESPNU.

The top four seeds earned opening round byes, including top-seeded Dayton, No. 2 St. Bonaventure, No. 3 Fordham and No. 4 George Washington. The remainder of the seeding includes Saint Joseph's (5), Duquesne (6), La Salle (7), VCU (8), Richmond (9), Saint Louis (10), Rhode Island (11), George Mason (12) and Massachusetts (13).

The Explorers own wins over three of the top six seeds, including their latest win on Saturday when they topped the Bonnies 55-49. They also beat George Washington and Duquesne, both on the road, and fell by just one point to third-seeded Fordham at Rose Hill Gym.
