Lacrosse Returns Home For Pair of Atlantic 10 Games; Hosts Duquesne & St. Bonaventure

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle lacrosse team returns to the friendly confines of McCarthy Stadium this weekend, hosting a pair of Atlantic 10 foes on Friday and Sunday. The Explorers play league co-leader Duquesne on Friday at 7 p.m., followed by a contest against St. Bonaventure on Sunday at 11 a.m.

Scouting the Explorers
La Salle is still in search of its first Atlantic 10 win of the season after a tough opening weekend on the road at No. 10 Massachusetts and Richmond. The Explorers became just the second team this season to score double-digit goals on the Minutewomen in a 19-10 loss, before suffering a 15-6 defeat on Sunday against the Spiders.

Highlighting last weekend was Caitlyn Brostrand's 100th career goal on Sunday, as she became the ninth player in program history to hit the century mark.

With four goals at UMass and another at Richmond, Katelyn Fay maintains the team scoring lead with 22 goals and five assists for 27 points. She has scored in all but one game this season, including the last nine straight. She has also scooped up 11 ground balls this season.

Brostrand is second on the squad with 20 goals and three assists for 23 points. She has also scored in all but one game this season, while also helping on the defensive end with a team-leading 14 draw controls.

Two-time Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Toni Massetti rounds out the top three scorers with 18 goals and three assists for 21 points. Massetti has been on fire lately with 15 of those goals in the last five games, compared to three in her first six contests. That includes five goals in a comeback win against Liberty and a hat trick at 10th-ranked UMass last weekend. She is second on the team with 14 ground balls and has also controlled eight draws and recorded five caused turnovers.

Defensively, Maggie O'Ferrall paces the Explorers with 10 caused turnovers while adding 12 ground balls. Kaitlin Colbridge has 13 ground balls, nine draw controls and eight caused turnovers, while Katie Marasco has added 11 draw controls, nine caused turnovers and eight ground balls. Erin McCabe is second on the squad with 12 draw controls while ranking fourth on the squad in scoring with 18 points on 14 goals and four assists.

Gabby Antonelli continues to handle the majority of goalkeeping duties, playing just shy of 600 minutes out of a possible 660 minutes. She boasts a 9.40 GAA and .453 save percentage, ranking second among starting goalies in the Atlantic 10.

The Explorers have outscored their opponents 116-103 on the season for an average of 10.55 goals per game. The squad also boasts a .818 shots on goal percentage, converting 202 of 247 chances. The squad ranks second in the Atlantic 10 with a .452 team save percentage and is third in the league with a .470 shot percentage.

Scouting the Dukes
Duquesne enters the weekend with an 11-1 overall record and 2-0 in the Atlantic 10. The Dukes defeated George Washington, 19-12, in the A-10 opener last Friday before handing George Mason a 21-13 defeat on Sunday. The squad's one loss this season was an 11-7 setback to Penn State on Feb. 25, and the Dukes have strung together a 10-game win streak since that date.

The Dukes feature four of the top six scorers in the Atlantic 10, led by leading scorer and reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Amanda Kidder. Kidder ranks first in the league with 47 goals and is tied for the league lead with 55 points. She is also dangerous on the defensive end, leading the Atlantic 10 with a whopping 32 caused turnovers and ranking in the top five in ground balls per game with a team-best 30.

Caitlin Prince is second on the team and third in the Atlantic 10 with 32 goals. She also has eight assists for a total of 40 points. Clare Hurley ranks fifth in the A-10 with 29 goals, while Haley Marafioti is sixth with 24 goals. Marafioti is third on the team in overall points with 37 on 24 goals and 13 assists.

Lib Lowry leads all players with 18 assists while adding 10 goals for 28 points. Morgan Matz is also over the 20-point mark with 12 goals and 13 assists for 25 points.

Defensively, Casey Briglia is second with 21 ground balls while contributing eight caused turnovers and six draw controls. Kristen Gregory handles the majority of goalkeeping duties, sporting an 8.07 GAA and .408 save percentage. Jenna Bishop has seen time in eight games and is recording a 7.05 GAA and .471 save percentage.

As a team, the Dukes rank first in the Atlantic 10 with 16.08 goals per game. They also lead the league in draw controls per game (14.17) and shot percentage (.548). They have outscored their opponents, 193-95.

Scouting the Bonnies
A very young St. Bonaventure team is still in search of its first win of 2014, going 0-9 overall and dropping its first two Atlantic 10 games. The Bonnies fell 11-9 to George Mason and 18-10 to George Washington, both at home last weekend. They will play Saint Joseph's on Friday before visiting McCarthy Stadium on Sunday.

St. Bonaventure is extremely young, with nine freshmen and three sophomores for a total of 12 underclassmen on a 16-woman roster. The Bonnies have just two juniors and two seniors.

The squad came closest to a W when the Bonnies played to a one-goal 8-7 loss at Rollins on Feb. 26.

A pair of sophomores handle the majority of the offense, with Mikayla Place recording a team-leading 22 points on 14 goals and eight assists. LeighAnn Stauffer leads all Bonnies with 21 goals. Lily Timlin rounds out the top three point-getters with nine points on six goals and three assists.

Stauffer also leads defensively, with 30 draw controls, 21 ground balls and a team-best 10 caused turnovers.

Sara Schlagenhauf has played every minute in goal and is recording a 15.22 goals against average and .417 save percentage.

As a team, the Bonnies have been outscored 137-67 and outshot 235-141.
