Lacrosse Wraps Up Regular Season This Weekend At George Washington & George Mason

PHILADELPHIA - Sitting in fourth place in the Atlantic 10 standings, the La Salle lacrosse team embarks on its final weekend of Atlantic 10 play looking to clinch a spot in the four-team Atlantic 10 Tournament. The Explorers draw at George Washington on Friday at 4 p.m. and wrap up the regular season at George Mason on Sunday at 1 p.m. With a win at GW on Friday, the Explorers can clinch their spot in next week's tournament, to be held at Richmond's Robins Stadium on May 2-4. The Explorers are also just one win away from tying the program's win record of 10 wins for the third straight year.

Scouting the Explorers
La Salle is riding a three-game win streak, thanks to victories over Duquesne, St. Bonaventure and Saint Joseph's. The Explorers held the Hawks to just one first-half goal en route to a 9-4 Senior Day win in their last game. Caitlyn Brostrand led all scorers with four points on two goals and two assists, and Katelyn Fay added three points on two goals and one assist.

Fay and Brostrand remain neck-and-neck for the team scoring lead with Fay recording 34 points on 28 goals and six assists while Brostrand is up to 33 points on 26 goals and a team-high seven assists. Rookie Toni Massetti is third with 28 points on 24 goals and four assists, while tying for team lead with Fay with 11 goals in Atlantic 10 play this season.

Brostrand continues to lead the squad in draw controls, recording 19, while adding 17 ground balls and seven caused turnovers. Katie Marasco leads all players with 15 caused turnovers, while also recording 12 draw controls and 11 ground balls. Kelly Furman and Kaitlin Colbridge clean up the ground ball category with 25 and 20, respectively, while Massetti is third with 19.

Gabby Antonelli has continued her strong rookie season between the pipes, recording a .500 save percentage in A-10 play and an 8.73 goals against average overall. She ranks second in save percentage in conference play and first with a .491 save percentage overall on the season. She also ranks first in the conference in saves per game with 10.00 stops per contest.

As a team, the Explorers have outscored opponents 148-122 on the season. They rank first in the league in saves per game and second in team save percentage, while ranking third with 16.00 ground balls per game and fourth with a 10.60 goals against average. They have also drained 33 free position goals to just 17 for opponents.

Scouting the Colonials
The Colonials are also out for battle this weekend as a weekend sweep is necessary for them to clinch a spot in the Atlantic 10 Tournament. The squad is currently 2-3 in A-10 play with wins over George Mason and St. Bonaventure and losses to Duquesne, Massachusetts and Richmond. They routed the Patriots last Friday, 14-7, behind six goals from Rachel Mia.

Jamie Bumgardner leads the squad with 59 points on 25 goals and 34 assists. She ranks third in the league with 4.21 points per game and leads all A-10 players with 2.43 assists per game.

Mia is second on the team with 34 points on a team-high 33 goals and one assist. Allie Rash is third with 23 points on 17 goals and six assists.

Defensively, Julia Lawson and Madison Pohle lead the squad with 15 caused turnovers each. A pair of players have controlled 30+ draws as Jenn Seitz has recorded 35 and Michaela Lynch has 33.

Mackenzie Jones has seen the lion's share of time in goal, starting 12 of 14 games. She sports a 12.22 goals against average and .373 save percentage.

As a team, the Colonials have scored 162 goals while giving up 164.

Scouting the Patriots
George Mason has struggled in its inaugural Atlantic 10 season, winning just one. The Patriots edged St. Bonaventure 11-9 in the conference debut before dropping four straight to Duquesne, Richmond, Massachusetts and George Washington. They have scored just 13 goals combined in the last three games. The squad will face Saint Joseph's on Friday before the match with La Salle on Sunday.

Rachel Obregon leads the Patriot offense with 44 points on 32 goals and 12 assists, ranking fourth in the A-10 in goals per game and eighth in points per game. Katie Mascolo is second with 27 points on 23 goals and four assists, and Caitlin McGinn rounds out scoring with 24 points on 22 goals and two assists.

Obregon also holds the team lead with 10 caused turnovers, while Mascolo is first with 23 ground balls and Melissa Lobaccaro leads with 31 draw controls.

Caroline Brouse has played the majority of time in goal and is recording an 11.95 goals against average and .401 save percentage.

As a team, George Mason has been outscored 169-135 overall and 82-37 in A-10 play.
