View the A-10 Release

The La Salle men's cross country team has been tabbed as the favorites to win their second consecutive Atlantic 10 title, the league announced Monday. In voting conducted by the conference's 14 head coaches, the Explorers earned the top spot on the list, followed by Saint Joseph's, Duquesne, and Massachusetts.

"We are very excited to begin the 2014 cross country season as the favorite to win the A-10 title," said head coach Tom Peterson. "This is a very strong cross country conference and there are more than a few schools that are capable of winning the title. While it is great to be the preseason pick, what matters most is where we finish on November 1st.  We will look to the returning Atlantic 10 Champion Nico Greco to lead La Salle to the top of the podium again."

The Blue and Gold have won two of the previous three A-10 Championships, in 2013 and 2011 respectively, while placing third in 2012. The Explorers return two All-Conference performers from last year in seniors Ian Barnhill and Nico Greco. In addition to his All-Conference honor, Greco won last seasons A-10 Cross Country Championship with a time of 23:46.9 and was named the Most Outstanding Performer in the Atlantic 10.

This is the fifth consecutive season, the La Salle men have been selected as the conference preseason favorites in the coaches' poll. The Explorers kick off their season at the Duquesne Duals on Saturday August 30th and will look to defend their A-10 title on November 1st in Pittsburgh at the Atlantic 10 Championships.
