PHILADELPHIA –
Jessika Kagan scored twice, including the game-winner in overtime, to push the La Salle women's soccer team past Temple on Sunday after
Kelsey Haycook set the program record for career points with a goal in the 26
th minute.
Kagan netted the game-winner in the 94
th minute, burying the ball into the net from the far side of the box on a cross from
Kristin Haugstad to give La Salle their second overtime victory of the year.
Kagan also gave the Blue and Gold a 2-1 lead in the 78
th minute when she dribbled past the keeper after a feed from
Katherine Hennessey and scored on an empty net. Temple answered the score with a goal coming off a corner kick in the 80
th minute to force overtime.
Haycook tallied the 114
th point of her career on the goal that gave La Salle a 1-0 lead in the 26
th minute, surpassing Amy Schneider (2010-2013) for the all-time program lead. The goal came after the senior fielded a cross from
Maryam Huseini and deposited the ball in the lower left corner.
Huseini now has 29 assists in her career, and needs just four more assists to tie Schneider's program-best 33 career assists.
The Owls tied the game at 1-1 in the 65
th minute on an unassisted goal by Kayla Cunningham, whose shot from the near side tipped off
Jessica Wiggins' gloves and trickled into the net. Wiggins recorded a game-high six saves, including four in the second half, to keep the Explorers in position to secure the win.
The women's soccer team is back in action on Sunday as they host Florida Gulf Coast at McCarthy Stadium at 1 p.m.
