TAMPA, Fla. – Former La Salle men's soccer standout
John McCarthy was named both Goalkeeper and Rookie of the Year in the United Soccer Leagues, it was announced Friday.
The Cinnaminson, N.J. native led the USL PRO in goals against-average and shutouts, recording 10 shutouts in 18 games to finish with a GAA of 0.722.
The Northeast Catholic product was a four-time Atlantic 10 All-Conference choice, a three-time NSCAA All-Mid Atlantic Region selection, a three-time Soccer 6 All-Star, and a two-time NSCAA Scholar All-American. He retired as La Salle's all-time leader among goalkeepers in saves (468), shutouts (28), and games played (75). His save total ranks 18
th in NCAA Division I history while his shutout tally is tied for 20
th.
McCarthy graduated from La Salle in December with a degree in Integrated Science, Business & Technology.
