PHILADELPHIA – After a week that saw the La Salle men's soccer team earn 1-0 victories over Bucknell and Manhattan, midfielder
Joe Farrell and goalkeeper
Mike Kirk have earned recognition from the Philadelphia Soccer Six.
Farrell was named Player of the Week after having a hand in both of La Salle's goals last week. The junior scored the game-winner in the 48th minute of Tuesday's victory over Bucknell, chipping it past the goalkeeper inside the near post on an assist from
Tom Baker. In overtime of Friday's scoreless duel at Manhattan, Farrell gathered a corner kick and found teammate Kennedy Colman for the game-winner in the 97
th minute. Farrell now is one of just three players in the Soccer Six to average at least one point per game, and his three goals rank second.
Kirk earned the Defensive Player of the Week award for putting together two shutouts in goal for La Salle last week. Against the Bison on Tuesday, the junior came up with seven saves to help Farrell's score early in the second half hold up for the 1-0 victory. Kirk was called upon for four saves in the win at Manhattan on Friday, holding the Jaspers scoreless for 96:31 before Farrell and Colman teamed up for the winner.
The Blue and Gold are back in action on Wednesday as they visit Villanova at 4 p.m. for their final Soccer Six match of the season.
