PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle volleyball team hits the road to close out its 2015 campaign with a trip to the Washington D.C. area. The Explorers face off against George Mason on Friday before closing the year at George Washington with both matches beginning at 7 p.m.
Scouting the Patriots...La Salle Explorers (6-23, 0-12 A-10) at George Mason Patriots (9-18, 3-9 A-10)Friday, Nov. 13 | Fairfax, Va. | 7:00 p.m.Live Statistics | -George Mason enters the weekend having dropped its last four conference matchups. The Patriots fell, 0-3, at Dayton and, 1-3, at Saint Louis last weekend.
-Senior Morghan Martin leads the Patriot attack, averaging 3.36 kills per set in conference play which ranks seventh best in the A-10. Martin posted a team high 13 kills in the first meeting between the Explorers and the Patriots, a 3-1 win for Mason.
-Senior Jelena Cobanovic leads the backline for George Mason, averaging 3.32 digs per set. The senior recorded 32 digs in a four set match against CCSU, which is the third highest single match total in the Atlantic 10 this season.
-Lola Owokoniran recorded ten kills the last time the two programs faced off. Sydney Fanoga also contributed seven total blocks in the Patriots win.
Scouting the Colonials...La Salle Explorers (6-23 0-12 A-10) vs. George Washington Colonials (18-10, 7-5 A-10)Saturday, Nov. 14 | Washington, D.C. | 7:00 p.m.Live Statistics -George Washington enters the weekend with a 7-5 record which is tied for fourth place in the Atlantic 10 with both Duquesne and VCU. The Colonials who have locked up a spot in the A-10 Championship could finish the regular season anywhere between third and sixth place.
-The Colonials have been successful at limiting opposing offense all season. George Washington ranks second in the conference with an opposing hitting percentage of just .177 on the season. They also rank second in digs (13.67 per set) and fifth in blocks (2.24 per set).
-Junior Chidima Osuchukwu (3.23 kills per set) and sophomore Aaliya Davidson (3.20 kills per set) rank eighth and ninth respectively in the conference in kills against conference opponents.
-Osuchukwu also leads the conference averaging 1.62 blocks per set. The junior recorded a match high nine kills and six blocks in a 3-0 victory at La Salle earlier this season.
Scouting the Explorers...-Freshman
Jensen Sharrits ranks fourth in the conference averaging 3.84 digs per set against Atlantic 10 opponents this season.
-Sharrits owns the top two individual match totals for digs this season. She recorded 34 digs twice on the year, first in a four set match against Bryant and later in a five set thriller against Davidson last weekend.
-Sophomore
Bryanna Davis ranks tenth in the conference averaging 2.98 kills per set in conference play. The Oakland, California native has 14 matches which she has finished in double figures for kills, including both matches last weekend.
-Junior
Ashley Felton sits in tenth place in the Atlantic 10 averaging 1.02 blocks per set. Felton also ranks second on the team averaging 2.15 kills per set on the season.
