PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle men's basketball team cruised to an 87-72 win over Duquesne on Wednesday night in Tom Gola Arena.
La Salle's offense churned out a season-high 87 points, paced by
Jordan Price's game-high 19 points. Price and
Amar Stukes each had six assists apiece.
"When you combine talent with effort you can have a really special player and he [
Jordan Price] wants to do that," added Coach
Dr. John Giannini. "He can do really special things for this team and for himself because of that attitude that you mentioned."
The Explorers got off to another strong start, going on a 12-0 run over the first 2:55 thanks to Price and
Cleon Roberts connecting on four three-pointers, and never looked back.
"It was very important. We knew that they were going to come out in a zone," said
Jordan Price. "That's what we practiced against; our scout team prepared us very well. We knew what we were going to get and that's the shots we took and we knocked them down today."
The Explorers were up 43-27 at the break, and eventually took a 26-point lead following an 11-1 midway through the second half.
Price nailed five three-pointers, including three in the first 3:34, to help La Salle connect on a season-high 13 triples. Roberts dropped three triples as part of a 13-point performance.
Jerrell Wright notched his fifth double-double of the season with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Wright moved past Walter Sampson (1961-64) into 10th all-time for career rebounds with 797.
Steve Zack also grabbed 10 boards, marking his 14th double-digit rebound game of the season.
Khalid Lewis finished 6-for-8 from the field for 13 points.
The Explorers are back in action on Sunday afternoon as they take on the Saint Louis Billikens at 2:30 p.m.(Eastern) in Chaifetz Arena. The game will be broadcast on NBCSN.
