ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Saint Louis rallied late in regulation and outscored La Salle in overtime to capture a 68-64 victory on Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Arena. Redshirt sophomore
Jordan Price led the way with 22 points while senior
Steve Zack added 16 points.
"They have a wonderful coach and good young players and they are tough at home," head coach
Dr. John Giannini said. "We hurt ourselves at times and we just made some poor plays at both ends of the court."
The Explorers led by as many as 11 points but the Billikens wouldn't go away. SLU led for just 53 seconds throughout the game but managed to keep the deficit in single digits for all of the second half before its move late.
La Salle led 56-51 with 1:47 left after two Price foul shots but a three-point play by Mike Crawford cut it to 56-54 just seven seconds later. Two SLU steals led to a pair of layups by the Billikens that gave the hosts their first advantage since the game's second minutes at 58-56.
Price nailed a pair of free throws with 25 seconds left to tie the score and a missed SLU three-pointer at the buzzer sent the game to overtime.
Saint Louis (11-16, 3-11 A-10) scored the first five points of the extra session before a jumper by junior
Khalid Lewis and a lay-up by Zack got the Explorers back to within one with less than a minute to play. But SLU made 5-of-6 foul shots in the final 24 seconds to keep the La Salle comeback at bay.
Davell Roby led the Billikens with 16 points, while Ash Yacoubou added 13.
La Salle (15-12, 7-7 A-10) remains on the road to visit Fordham on Wednesday at 7 PM.Â
