Anastasia Fries earned her first career Atlantic 10 honor on Monday as the senior defender earned the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week award.
Fries was pivotal in the Explorers' 15-5 win over Sacred Heart on Saturday, helping the squad to its third straight win. She was tasked with marking SHU's leading scorer Jenna Liljeberg, and was stellar as she held Liljeberg without a point. She committed zero turnovers while recording two caused turnovers along with two draw controls and two ground balls.Â
"It is nice to see Anastasia get recognition because she is an incredibly hard worker and a consistent anchor on our defense," Head Coach
Candace Taglianetti Bossell said.
Fries has no turnovers at all in seven games this season, and has recorded 11 ground balls and seven caused turnovers on the season. She also recorded an assist in the Explorers' win over Kennesaw State.Â
The Explorers have now won three straight by an average margin of 13.3 goals per game.Â
