Explorers Finish First day of Colonial Relays

WILLIAMSBURG, Va.-
Several La Salle runners set personal bests during the first day of the Colonial Relays.
 
Junior Shannon Dwyer had the top time in her heat and the best of the three La Salle entries in the 800 meter run seeded race. Dwyer ran a 2:15.68 which set a personal record by nearly four seconds and won her heat by .63 seconds and finished 21st overall in the 44 women field. Freshman Ifetyao Tyler was right behind Dwyer thanks to a time of 2:16.01 which also was a personal best by 1.45 seconds and earned a 22nd place finish. Junior Kate Conville finished in 24th overall thanks to a time of 2:16.72 besting her personal fastest time in the event by 2.47 seconds.
 
Freshman Morgan Szekely just missed out on finishing in the points in the 1500 meter run seeded division. Szekely ran a 4:28.93 finishing in ninth place just .7 seconds off the eighth place finisher. Senior Cayleigh Solano ran a 4:38.30 to finish in 22nd place out of 56 competitors and improve her personal best at the distance by 15.53 seconds. Solano won the third heat of the race by 1.57 seconds. Freshman Kaitlin Poiesz was right behind Solano with a time of 4:39.24 for a 23rd place finish. Senior Taylor Hackett ran a 4:43.89 to finish in 35th place overall.
 
La Salle had three runners in the 5000 meter run seeded division. Freshman Megan Connell led the way with a time of 17:21.06 for 13th place out of 41 runners. Junior Molly Mickle also ran in the race finishing in 17:43.25 for 15th place overall. Freshman Michelle Myland had the top time in the second heat of the race with a 17:51.57 for 17th place overall. Myland bested the second head by 4.05 seconds. Senior Kate Boligitz ran in the 5000 meter university division and ran an 18:57.53 for 14th place out of 25 runners.
 
Freshman Amber Jenkins ran a 12.95 in the 100 meter dash which was good for 54th place in the 84 women field in the women's university division.
 
Junior Rebecca Scardelletti ran a 10:28.06 in the 3000 meter run championships division. Her time was good for 17th place out of 25 runners. Sophomore Olivia Boyer also ran the 3000 meters in the university division running a 10:42.20 to finish in 11th place out of 30 runners. Boyer's time was a personal record by 5.36 seconds.
 
Senior Courtney Cramer competed in the 3000 meter steeplechase running a 12:06.96 for a 22nd place finish.
 
Sophomore Amber Jackson used a leap of 5.40 meters to earn a 25th place finish in the long jump out of 68 competitors.
 
La Salle will close out the Colonial Relays on Saturday as the women's triple jump will take place Saturday morning in addition to relay events throughout the entire day.
