NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - La Salle freshman Mackenzie Karcher has been named the Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Co-Rookie of the Week, the league office announced today. Karcher's first collegiate goal was the game-winner on Sunday at Villanova in the 54th minute. 

"I am very happy and pleased that Mack was recognized with the honor this week," head coach Michelle Marks Salmi said. "Scoring her first collegiate goal and having it be a game winning goal against a Big 5 rival is great. She has tremendous speed and shows great composure for being a first year player. I look forward to watching her grow as a player over her rookie year and career at La Salle."

She shares Rookie of the Week honors with Richmond's Laetitia Commeyne.

La Salle (1-1) is back on the turf on Friday at Georgetown at 1 PM before returning home on Sunday versus Ball State at noon.
