PITTSBURGH- The La Salle women's soccer team dropped a 3-1 decision to the ACC's Pittsburgh Panthers on Sunday afternoon at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
Both teams employed physical defense and battled to a scoreless first half before Pitt scored two quick goals after the break.
Pitt took the lead in the 50th minute when Juliana Vazquez scored thanks to assists from Roosa Arvas and Taylor Pryce. Sarah Krause made it 2-0 in favor of Pitt in the 51st minute on another assist from Pryce.
Redshirt senior Emily Fenton netted a ball inside the far post in the 67th minute, her first goal of the season, to cut the deficit to one goal.
The Panthers, however, answered less than a minute later with a goal from Siobhan McDonough to extend the lead to 3-1.
The Explorers outshot Pitt 17-14 on the afternoon and controlled corner kicks 5-2 but Pitt keeper Taylor Francis held La Salle at bay with seven saves.
La Salle returns to the pitch on Friday as they visit Navy for a 7 PM match at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility.
