A-10 ReleaseÂ
NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- La Salle women's lacrosse has been picked to finish in fifth place in the 2016 Women's Lacrosse Preseason Poll as voted by the leagues head coaches.
Â
The Explorers finished with 58 points which was the fifth most in the ten team league. La Salle is coming off a season that saw them go 8-8 and 4-4 in the A-10 which was good for fifth place in the league, falling just one spot short of earning a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship.
"It is clear that UMass is the team to beat and really upholding the standard of winning in our conference," said head coach
Candace Taglianetti Bossell.
Â
"However we feel that this conference is wide open this year and that anyone is capable of beating anyone. We have been working hard to fill he void of our talented graduating class both on attack and defense. I believe our team has some new looks and we have worked to develop some of the weakness we have had in the past."
Â
The Atlantic 10 expands to ten teams this season with the addition of VCU who are in their first year as a varsity program. With the addition the Atlantic 10 will expand the Championship bracket to six teams with the top two in the regular season standings earning a buy to the semi-finals.
Â
La Salle returns two of their top three goal scorers in senior
Katelyn Fay who led the team with 40 goals and 45 points last season and junior
Allee Ilgenfritz who finished third in goals at 30 while adding 11 assists on the year.Â
Â
The Explorers open the season on Wednesday February 17 as they head to Temple with draw scheduled for 3 p.m. La Salle opens their home slate on Tuesday March 8 when they welcome Robert Morris with start time at 4 p.m.Â
