POMONA, N.Y. - Recent La Salle graduate
Joey Ravert signed a professional contract on Thursday afternoon with the Rockland Boulders of the Can-Am Professional Baseball League. By Thursday evening, he was on the mound making his pitching debut.
"It was a crazy few hours," Ravert said. "I threw a bullpen, essentially as a tryout, before the game. After about ten pitches the manager stopped me and asked if I wanted a job. A couple of hours later I was in uniform making my debut. It was an unbelievable experience to pitch in front of a great crowd at our home ballpark."
Ravert threw 3.2 innings, allowing a two-run home run as his only blemish. He kept the Boulders in the contest, who rallied from an 8-3 deficit to win 9-8 in ten innings.Â
La Salle's Co-Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Ravert was a four-year starter for the Explorers on the diamond. He struck out 58 batters in 57.1 innings in 2016 and had three victories on the mound. The Malvern Prep graduate also led the team in RBI (31) and home runs (six).
He earned All-Region, All-Atlantic 10 and All-Big 5 honors as a junior.
