Reeve Helps Team USA to Olympic Gold Medal in Rio

RIO de JANEIRO – Former La Salle standout Cheryl Reeve '88 helped coach the United States Women's National Team to the gold medal in the Rio Olympics.
 
The three-time WNBA champion head coach of the Minnesota Lynx helped Team USA defeat Spain on Saturday 101-72 to win the sixth straight gold medal for the American women's basketball squad. The U.S. beat Japan and France in the medal round to advance to the final.
 
The women were a perfect 5-0 in the preliminary round in Rio, cruising to defeats of Senegal, Spain, Serbia, Canada and China.
 
Reeve joined DePaul's Doug Bruno and South Carolina's Dawn Staley as assistants to national team head coach Geno Auriemma of Connecticut. Reeve served with the same staff for the USA FIBA World Championship Team that captured gold at the 2014 FIBA World Championship in Istanbul, Turkey.
 
A 1988 La Salle graduate, Reeve led the Explorers to two NCAA Tournaments in her time on 20th and Olney. Reeve was an All-MAAC and All-Big 5 pick as a senior, leading the Explorers to a 25-5 record . She holds the school record for most starts in a career (110) and ranks fifth in career assists (420). She was a Rhodes Scholar nominee, MAAC Scholar-Athlete Postgraduate Award recipient and NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipient in 1988.
