BLOOMFIELD, Conn. - Facing a long and arduous final day of the Hartford Hawk Invitational, the La Salle University women's golf team proceeded to complete its opening round before posting a school-record, final-round 324 to secure seventh place out of 13 teams on Sunday.
The team score bettered the previous mark of 328, set earlier this fall at the Bucknell Invitational. La Salle finished the tournament ahead of Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams Siena and Fairfield, as well as Hofstra, Holy Cross, Saint Francis U. and St. Francis Brooklyn.
The Explorers, who did not complete the first round on Saturday due to darkness, finished the final few holes of that round before embarking on the final 18 holes of play. Over the first 18 holes, redshirt freshman
Marybelle Daclan led the way with a team-best 81.
Sophomore
Rebecca Smith paced La Salle over the final round, matching a school record with a two-over par 74. The record had been set twice previously, once by Smith and once this season by Daclan.
Daclan also had an impressive round two, carding score of 79 on round two and finishing the event in 15th place. Senior
Mariam Colon shaved eight shots off her first-round total with an 83, while freshmen
Gina Lizzo and
Franca Hurtado were the final two competitors for La Salle.
Quinnipiac earned the team title a one-shot victory over Brown, while Chelsea Sedlar of Sacred Heart won the individual title by two strokes over QU's Julia Kemmling.
La Salle completes its fall schedule with a dual meet at Niagara on Monday, Oct. 9.
