LEESBURG, Va. – Freshman
Ryan James finished 17
th overall to earn the Men's Most Outstanding Rookie Performer award as the La Salle men's cross country team finished 5
th at the A-10 Championship on Saturday morning at the Oatlands Plantation Cross Country Course.
James was the first freshman to cross the finish line, clocking a time of 25:54.4 on the 5-mile course. James also paced the Explorers, finishing just a few paces ahead of
Anthony Hawthorne, who turned in a time of 25:58.8.
"On the men's side there was a lot to be proud of today," said head coach
Tom Peterson. "
Ryan James ran an outstanding race to finish 17
th and earn the Most Outstanding Rookie Award. On top of that, Billy Byrne was the second freshman in the conference to cross the line today."
Byrne ran 26:18.8 to finish 31
st while senior Dylon Titon finished 43
rd with a time of 26:33.5.
Andrew Gorsuch finished just strides behind Titon in 44th, registering a time of 26:34.3.
Joe Boyle and
Chris Sanders were the sixth and seventh finishers for the Explorers, displacing others in scoring. Boyle clocked 26:48.8 to finish 55
th while Sanders ran 27:06.7 to place 74
th.
"As a team, the loss of freshman
Luke Jaciw-Zurakowsky early in the race was a big hit but the guys responded well to the situation. Finishing fifth was a good day today but it's not where we want to be next year," added Peterson. "The future is bright for this young group of guys."
