NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Amy Griffin was named Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Week while Shaquana Edwards earned Rookie of the Week for their performances against Lafayette on Friday, the league office announced Monday.
 
Griffin scored 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting from the field, including a career-high seven three-point field goals to lead the Explorers to a season-opening win over Lafayette. The senior from Atlanta, Ga., also pulled down a game-high eight rebounds and had four steals.
 
Edwards made a splash in her collegiate debut, tallying 17 points, seven assists and five rebounds against the Leopards. The guard from Hartford, Conn., also collected four steals and was 7-of-14 from the floor.
 
Griffin shares the honor with Dayton's JaVonna Layfield. The Explorers are back in action tonight as they visit the American Eagles of the Patriot League. Tipoff from Bender Arena in Washington, D.C. is scheduled for 7 p.m.
