Scouting the Explorers
-La Salle went 2-0 over the weekend to win the 2017 Christmas City Classic in Bethlehem, Pa. The Explorers topped New Hampshire 59-51 on Saturday before outlasting Lehigh 69-61 in Sunday's championship game.
-Amy Griffin was named Christmas City Classic MVP after averaging 23.0 points over the two games, while Shaquana Edwards earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team by averaging 9.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals.
-La Salle shot a season-best 52.1 percent (25-for-48) from the field against Lehigh, including 4-for-7 from beyond the arc. The Explorers are 2-0 when they attempt fewer than 10 three-pointers.
-Sophomore Sofilia Ngwafang didn't miss a shot against the Mountain Hawks on the way to a season-high 13 points, going 5-for-5 from the floor and 3-for-3 from the line.
-Freshman Deja King had a season-high five assists on Sunday, which was also a game-high. The Trenton, N.J. native turned the ball over just once against the Mountain Hawks.
Scouting the Quakers
-Penn went 1-1 in the Junkanoo Jam in the Bahamas over the Thanksgiving holiday, falling to Georgia Tech before defeating Missouri State.
-The Quakers rallied from an 18-point deficit in the win over Missouri State, and finished the game on an 8-0 run to seal the win. The 18-point rally marked the largest halftime deficit overcome by the Red and Blue in the McLaughlin era at Penn (nine seasons).
-Senior Lauren Whitlatch tied a career-high with six three-pointers against MSU and had a team-high 18 points for the game.
-The Quakers notched both their highest and lowest point totals in one quarter of play this season against the Bears, scoring just eight points in the 2
nd quarter before exploding for 27 in the 3
rd.
