PHILADELPHIA- The women's track and field teams raced at the Jack Pyrah Invitational at Haverford College on Saturday, facing local competitors Villanova and St. Joseph's.
The team was represented in eight different events to open the season.
Ifetayo Tyler turned in the Explorers best place finish when she crossed the line in 2:21.25 to lead the 800m. Freshman
Makayla Eberly made a strong collegiate debut when she finished third in the event, in a time of 2:24.17.
Devon Barr followed with a fifth place finish in 2:43.55, while
Alexandria Moraschi finished just behind in sixth with a time of 2:43.94.
Ariel Mitchell finished third in the pool of competitors with a career-best 7.70 sprint in the 60m event, while freshman
Marissa Francis made her debut in a 8.05 performance to finish eighth.
Five Explorers were led by
Amber Jenkins in the 300m sprint, with Jenkins posting a 41.63 to turn in a fourth place finish. Mitchell followed in seventh in 42.64 while
Chidinma Matthew went eighth for a 42.89 performance.Â
Ciaron Williams (46.51) and
Corrine Davis (46.51) also represented La Salle in the 300m.
Desirae Osley was the sole Explorer in the 500m, with a 1:25.27 result to place fifth in the field.Â
Jenkins, Matthew, Eberly and Tyler appeared as a 4x400m relay team that sprinted to a fifth place finish in 4:08.31. Osley, Williams, Barr and Davis made up a second 4x400m relay team that placed eighth overall in 4:22.67.
Kaleah Miller took home a first place finish as she leap 5.52m in the long jump, while teammate
Jessica Bryant jumped 5.39 to finish second. Bryant topped the field in the triple jump after leaping 11.69m as well.
Katherine Weiss posted a 9.13m hurl in the shot put to place fourth in her collegiate debut.Â
La Salle will be back in action in 2018, when the team heads the New York to compete at the Fordham Mike Massone Invitational on Jan. 12.Â
