CHANDLER, Ariz.- Freshmen
Amanda Chapin and
Taylor Kauffman were recognized as Division I National Scholars of Distinction by the Zag Field Hockey/National Field Hockey Coaches Association on Wednesday for their excellence in academics for the fall semester.
Chapin and Kauffman were two of 114 athletes from 54 schools to receive the honors. Student-athletes who earned a cumulative GPA of 3.90 or above in the first semester of the 2016-2017 academic school year were recognized by the organization.
Chapin appeared in 17 games in her first season as an Explorer and scored one goal to help La Salle to a 2-1 victory over Lehigh. Kauffman is a marketing major from Lebanon, Pa. who appeared in four games in her rookie season as a defensive player.
Eight additional Explorers were named to the Zag Field Hockey/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad. Chapin and Kauffman were joined by

Kendall Kreider,
Abbey Lawrence,
Sophie Lozowski,
Devin Muracco, Kaitlin O'Grady,
Emma Provost and
April Stein for this award.
The 10 Explorers received the accolades for individually achieving a GPA of 3.30 or higher through the 2016 fall semester. La Salle was one of 79 schools to be represented.
Lawrence was also acknowledged as one of 139 seniors to receive the award for four seasons.
