LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. - The La Salle University women's golf team finished up play at the 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship on Sunday with its best round of the three-day event. The Explorers, who competed in their first season as a varsity team in 2016-17, shaved six strokes off their total from round two and closed at 404.

Graduate student Kendra Heyer, who began playing the sport of golf in the fall after a four-year career with La Salle's softball team, had the highlight of the day with her first career birdie on the 3rd hole. Only one other golfer in the field, Monmouth's Kaitlin Clancy, birdied the par-3, 144-yard hole on Sunday, and Heyer also improved by 14 strokes from her day-two round.

Also showing marked progress was freshman Bella Ritzel, who cut 15 strokes from her previous day's score on the third and final day of competition. Classmate Gabby Morganti joined her teammates with her best round of the tournament, shaving five strokes off her score from Saturday to Sunday.

Junior Mariam Colon carded her third straight 88 and tied for 34th overall, while freshman Rebecca Smith was the top overall finisher for the Explorers with a tie for 26th.

Quinnipiac won the team title and earned the league's automatic bid to NCAA Regionals with a six-stroke victory over Albany. QU's Alexandra Sazhin earned medalist honors at 231.
