AMHERST, Ma.- The La Salle Explorers competed in day one of the Atlantic 10 Championship at UMass in Amherst, Ma. Two Explorers qualified to move on to day two of the finals event, while several others will be making their first appearances tomorrow, May 7.
The team turned in strong results in seven different events during the opening day.
Olivia Boyer clocked a career best 37:50.41 in the 10000m run to place 11
th out of 20 on the day.
Mone't Gist qualified to move on in the ninth seed for the finals of the 100m hurdles. She clocked a new career time of 14.65 in the preliminaries to earn the spot on Sunday's final at 11:15 AM.
Ifetayo Tyler will advance to the finals in the 800m event, thanks to a sixth place finish in the preliminary round. The junior clocked a career best time of 2:10.80 to move on to the finals on Sunday at 12:15 PM.
In the preliminaries of the 100m dash,
Ariel Mitchell crossed the line 10
th overall, just .01 shy of moving on to the finals. She registered a time of 12.28 to top 12 other runners in the field. Mitchell also competed in the 200m dash, sprinting a time of 25.60.
Shelby Francis competed in the 400m hurdles, crossing the line in 1:06.06 to finish 15th overall in her first appearance in the A-10 Outdoor Championship.
A trio of Explorers competed in the women's long jump finals.
Kaleah Miller finished fourth overall, leaping 5.84m on the day. Freshman
Jessica Bryant followed in fifth, thanks to a jump of 5.82m. Eighth place finish
Amber Jackson rounded out La Salle's performance, jumping a distance of 5.61m as all Explorers finished in the top half of the field.
Racing will resume tomorrow, May 7 at 10:30 AMÂ for day two of the Outdoor Atlantic 10 Championship.
