Volleyball Hosts Valley Forge Sports Invitational

PHILADELPHIA- The La Salle volleyball team will co-host the Valley Forge Sports Invitational this weekend with the University of Pennsylvania.  The pair will welcome four teams to compete in the three-day invitational, beginning on Friday, Sept. 8 through Sept. 10.

La Salle will host Siena, Navy, Robert Morris and Penn as part of the invitational. The three-day slate for La Salle begins with a match against Navy on Friday at 7:00 p.m.

The team will then face Siena on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Tom Gola before welcoming Robert Morris at 4:30 p.m. to wrap up the day. The Explorers will play their final game of the weekend against Penn at Tom Gola on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. to conclude the tournament.

Scouting the Explorers…

- The Explorers are off to their best start in program history with a 7-1 record. After winning the Akron Invitational last weekend, the Explorers look to build on the momentum in the upcoming weekend.
- Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Samantha Graver has racked up 102 kills in 30 sets to lead the team. The freshman averages 3.40 per set. Behind her is sophomore Devin Corah, who has tallied 91 kills to average 3.14 per set and Bryanna Davis, who has recorded 87 on the season.
- Jensen Sharrits leads the team with 150 digs to average 5.00 per set. She leads the Atlantic 10 overall statistic as libero. Graver has added 75 digs of her own, while Alyssa Cianciulli has contributed 55 on the year.
- Corah and freshman Reilly Lowe have each contributed 13 total blocks on the season to lead the team defensively.

Scouting the Mids…

- Navy is off to a 6-1 start this season with head coach Larry Bock in his seventh season at the helm.
- Maddi Sgattoni leads the team with 72 kills across the first seven matches to average 2.88 per set. She has added eight aces to lead the team in both categories. Team captain Tara Dotzauer follows behind with 70 kill so far to average 2.80 across 25 sets.
- Olivia Kluger leads the team in digs with 70 on the season to average 2.80 per set. A defensive threat as well as a offensive one, Sgattoni ranks second on the team with 2.40 digs per set.

Scouting the Saints…

- The Saint have yet to win a game this season with a 0-5 record in head coach Garvey Pierre's 15th season.
- Nicole Deobler leads the team with 32 kills on the season. She averages 2.29 kills in the 14 sets she has appeared in for the Saints. Defensively, she leads the team in digs per set, with 1.64 and 23 on the season.
-  Karli Rodriquez and Brittany Herrick lead the team with five total blocks on the season. Brooke Rogers has tallied two solo blocks to lead the team.

Scouting the Colonials…

- In head coach Dale Starr's eighth season at the helm, the Colonials have started 3-6 through the first nine games.
- Emma Granger lead the team with 89 kills this season to average 2.97 per set. Alyson Londot follwos behind with 86 kills to average 2.69 in the 32 sets she has appeared in.
- On the defensive end, Allie Yurkovitch has posted 118 digs this season. Yurkovitch averages 3.58 digs per set through the first nine matches.

Scouting the Quakers...

- The Quakers have started the season 2-1 with head coach Katie Schumacher-Cawley in her first season at the helm. The team mostly recently topped La Salle A-10 rival George Mason in a 3-0 sweep last weekend.
- Parker Jones averages 3.67 kills across 12 sets to lead the team in the attack. She has racked up 44 total kills on the season. Courtney Quinn and Kendall Convington follow behind with 29 kills each for the Quakers.
- Quinn leads the team in digs, with 39 on the season, while Jones has contributed 27 of her own to rank second. The pair average 3.25 and 2.25, respectively, per set.
