La Salle Plays Saint Joseph’s at Home Sunday in Big 5 Action

PHILADELPHIA – The La Salle women's basketball team welcomes crosstown rival Saint Joseph's to Tom Gola Arena on Sunday afternoon for a Big 5 rivalry game. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.

Scouting the Explorers

-La Salle used a 14-0 run spanning the 3rd and 4th quarters on the way to a 62-57 comeback win over VCU on Thursday afternoon. 

-During that run, La Salle held VCU scoreless from the 4:57 mark in the 3rd until the 9:01 mark in the 4th quarter, or 5:56 of game clock.

-Amy Griffin had a game-high 26 points, including 17 points in the first half to help keep the Explorers within striking distance. The senior leads La Salle in scoring with 15.3 points per game, and has scored 20 or more points in five games. 

-Sofi Ngwafang chipped in 10 points in just 16 minutes off the bench, including eight points during the 3rd quarter. The sophomore is averaging 6.0 points in just 14.6 minutes per game, and is shooting 57.8 percent (48-of-83) from the field.

-Adreana Miller was instrumental in keeping La Salle in front after the 3rd quarter comeback against VCU, scoring 10 of her 16 points in the 4th quarter as the Explorers held off a late push by the Rams.

-Shalina Miller leads the A-10 in field goal percentage at 53.0, and is averaging 7.9 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. To qualify for A-10 standing in FG %, a player must have played in 60% of team games and average 3.0 made field goals per game.
 
Scouting the Hawks
-Saint Joseph's is coming off back-to-back losses, falling 61-42 at home to Duquesne on Wednesday after a 96-73 loss at Saint Louis on Sunday.

-The Hawks shot a season-low 25.4 percent from the field on Wednesday, and allowed a 15-0 run in the second quarter that effectively put the game out of contention.  

-Senior Chelsea Woods leads SJU in scoring and rebounding, with 14.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Adashia Franklyn also averages close to a double-double for the Hawks, posting 9.7 ppg and 8.1 rpg.

-SJU head coach Cindy Griffin will look for her 300th win at the helm of the Hawks on Sunday. Over 17 seasons at Saint Joseph's, Griffin has posted a 299-222 record and became just the fourth Atlantic 10 coach to reach 150 conference wins with a victory over Richmond on January 10.
