PHILADELPHIA – La Salle University men's soccer freshman goalkeeper
Brett Werner was named Philadelphia Soccer Six Rookie of the Week on Monday.
It's Werner's second accolade in two weeks after being named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week last week. Werner is also the second Explorer to earn Soccer Six rookie plaudits this season, as fellow freshman
Fridtjof Andberg received the honor earlier this month.
Werner got his first career win in goal in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime victory at NJIT. He allowed just the one goal over 95+ minutes of action and made all four of his saves in extra time as the Explorers withstood the Highlanders' attack and countered with the winning goal.
The local La Salle College High School product finished the season with a 0.91 goals against average and a .857 save percentage. He allowed just three goals over three matches, logging over 295 minutes, while making 18 saves and posting a 1-1-1 record in net.
