PHILADELPHIA – La Salle University head field hockey coach
Kelly Broadway announced that eight student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to join the Explorers in 2019.
Natalie Biliunas (Glen Allen, Va.),
Samie Hackman (Yardley, Pa.),
Emma Holzman (Lebanon, Pa.),
Bryn Hughes (Center Valley, Pa.),
Kelsey Jones (Catonsville, Md.),
Casey Reilly (Warrington, Pa.),
Chloe South (Lusby, Md.) and
Hannah Yanovich (Dallas, Pa.) comprise Broadway's first recruiting class as head coach of the program.
"I am thrilled to welcome these eight student-athletes and their families to our La Salle field hockey program," Broadway said. "This recruiting class addresses many of the program's needs and will provide us with depth at each position. We expect the 2019 class to come in and make an immediate impact on our program."
Natalie Biliunas - Forward - Glen Allen, Va. – Deep Run High School
Biliunas scored 66 goals and handed out 29 assists during her four-year varsity career at Deep Run High School in Virginia. A first-team all-state selection as a junior, Biliunas helped the Wildcats to a state final appearance this year.
Broadway on Biliunas - "We are excited to welcome Natalie to Philadelphia! From the first time I watched Natalie play, I immediately noticed the untapped potential she possesses. Natalie is a fast, dynamic, and competitive forward who will provide us much needed depth on our forward line! We are excited to start working with her in the fall."
Samie Hackman – Forward/Midfield - Yardley, Pa. – Pennsbury High School
Hackman captained Pennsbury for two seasons, leading the Falcons to a Suburban One League championship in 2017. For her career, she tallied 27 goals and 15 assists and was named Second Team All-Suburban One League in each of the last two seasons.
Broadway on Hackman – "We are thrilled to welcome Samie here to La Salle. She has a very strong field hockey background from both her high school and club programs. Samie is a versatile player who will be able to provide us depth in two different areas with her lethal speed and dynamic stick work. We look forward to utilizing her talents on both our forward and midfield lines."
Emma Holzman – Defense – Lebanon, Pa. – Cedar Crest High School
A four-year starter and letterwinner for Cedar Crest High School, Holzman earned all-league and all-county honors in each of the last three years, including First Team All-County status as a junior. Most recently, the National Honor Society member won the Linda Shelley Spirit Award at the recent Lancaster Lebanon League All-Star Banquet.
Broadway on Holzman - "We are elated to have Emma join our program. Emma will immediately provide us with much-needed depth in our backfield. I love Emma's versatility, along with her athleticism, speed, and vision of the field. The sky is the limit for Emma and we are so excited to watch her develop over the next four years. "
Bryn Hughes – Defense – Center Valley, Pa. – Southern Lehigh High School
A four-year varsity letterwinner, Hughes compiled 30 goals and 86 points during her high school career at Southern Lehigh. A team captain as a senior, she was named to the All-Colonial League First Team in 2018.
Broadway on Hughes – "We are ecstatic to have a defender the caliber of Bryn joining our program. Bryn hails from a very competitive high school and we look forward to her bringing that experience here to La Salle. Bryn will continue the legacy in our program of having hard-nose competitive defenders who are difficult to beat."
Kelsey Jones – Midfield – Catonsville, Md. – St. Paul's School for Girls
Another four-year varsity starter, Jones was a 2017 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland (IAAM) All-Conference honoree and helped her team to a "B" Conference championship. This past year, she was selected team captain and was also chosen to play in the Maryland State Senior Field Hockey Game.
Broadway on Jones – "We are thrilled to welcome Kelsey to our program. She joins us from Reach Field Hockey Club in Maryland, coached by Honda Award Winner and field hockey legend Mimi Smith. Kelsey is a dynamic midfielder who has great vision and game sense. Couple that with solid fundamentals and she will be a dangerous threat. We expect Kelsey to come in and make an immediate impact in our midfield."
Casey Reilly – Forward – Warrington, Pa. – Central Bucks South
Playing in one of the top conferences in the state, Reilly was a two-time First Team All-Suburban One League choice and earned a spot on the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) Class 3A All-State Second Team as a junior. During her four-year varsity career at C.B. South, Reilly scored 55 goals – including 27 as a senior – and totaled 129 points.
Broadway on Reilly – "We are excited to have a local talent like Casey here at La Salle. Casey is a powerhouse forward who uses a deadly combination of speed, power, and finesse to score goals. We are excited to watch Casey develop during her career here at La Salle and look forward to her scoring many goals for the Explorers."
Chloe South – Goalkeeper – Lusby, Md. – Patuxent High School
South put together an accomplished career at Patuxent, helping the school to four Southern Maryland Athletic Conference and South Region championships. As a junior, the Panthers won the Maryland 1A State Championship and returned to the finals in 2018. During her senior season, she had a perfect 0.00 goals against average during regular season play and was selected to participate in the Maryland State Senior Game.
Broadway on South – "To have a standout goalie like Chloe join our program is very exciting. Chloe has an undeniable presence in the cage and has many qualities that are necessary to be an outstanding goalkeeper at the collegiate level. We are excited to have Chloe here at La Salle and we expect Chloe to come in and compete for the position right away."
Hannah Yanovich – Forward – Dallas, Pa. – Dallas High School
Yanovich led Dallas High School in goals scored in all four of her varsity seasons, concluding her standout high school career with 78 goals and 175 points. A three-time First Team All-Star, she was a Second Team All-State selection in 2016. A standout student who plans to major in nursing, she is a two-time recipient of the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Scholastic Honor Award.
Broadway on Yanovich – "Talk about a nose for the goal! Hannah is a lethal forward who hails from a powerhouse field hockey area. Hannah's versatility as a forward and her ability to score in many different attack situations is very exciting. We look forward to Hannah making an immediate impact on our forward line with her speed on the ball and her ability to create numerous scoring opportunities."
