Box Score PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's lacrosse team played its first game of the season on a cold Friday evening at McCarthy Stadium. The Explorers may have used the weather to their advantage against California-based Fresno State, scoring the last four goals of the game, but came up short in an 8-6 loss.
After almost nine scoreless minutes to start the game,
Emily Johnston scored the first goal of the contest and the first goal of the season for La Salle on an unassisted shot in front of the net.
The Explorers then faced a motivated Bulldog offense that scored eight of the next nine goals.Â
From the 22-minute mark in the second half until the clock struck zero, La Salle outscored Fresno 4-0.
Hope Smith started the streak with a goal assisted by
Maddie Dachowski.
Bridget Ruskey scored the next two goals, giving her a total of three for the day. Finally,
Brittany Edwards capped things off after
Isabel Caddick caused a turnover in the Explorers' defensive zone that sent the ball the other way. Edwards' goal was assisted by Ruskey.
Abbey Meehan picked up five ground balls, caused five turnovers, and secured four draws.Â
Lynn Frankel and
Molly Loughlin each had five saves in net.
Next up, the Explorers travel to play Delaware on Wednesday, February 21 at 6:00 PM.
