Box Score PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's lacrosse team (2-2) outscored Marist College (2-2) 11-5 in the final 47 minutes of regulation to win the game on Senior Day, 12-5.
Prior to the game, the team's five senior players along with one senior managers were honored for their contributions to the program.
After falling into a 4-1 hole early,
Brittany Edwards scored twice and
Bridget Ruskey scored her second goal to tie the game with 7:05 left in the half. La Salle wouldn't trail for the rest of the game.
Just over a minute later,
Hope Smith scored to give the Explorers a 6-5 lead. Ruskey scored again as the time ticked down in the half, but this time on a one-timer from
Rachel Ceplo.
Annina Iacobucci scored again with 10 seconds left in the frame to give the Explorers a 7-5 lead going into the break.
Following halftime, it was Iacobucci who scored again to make it 8-5. After a pair of Marist goals kept the Explorers honest, Edwards struck two more times. First in front of the net from another assist by Ceplo and then again while the Explorers were actually down two players. Edwards finished with a team-high four goals. Ruskey and Iacobucci had three.
Late in the game Iacobucci scored her third goal while
Mikki Raymond netted her first of the season on a free position.
Courtney Shoults was everywhere on defense, picking up six grounders and causing four turnovers. Edwards and
Abbey Meehan each caused two turnovers.
Lynne Frankel was excellent in net with 15 saves.
The Explorers will host Vanderbilt on Thursday at 6:00 PM.
