PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle women's lacrosse team will hit the road this weekend to face Atlantic 10 opponents VCU and Richmond this weekend in two crucial games. While the Explorers are currently on the outside looking in, their playoff hopes are very much alive. The Spiders and Rams will both prove to be tough opponents, but the Explorers have shown that they've been able to hang with any team in the conference this season.

The Explorers are riding a two-game winning streak, sparked by an overtime victory over Duquesne last Friday. Bridget Ruskey scored the goal in a thrilling sequence in which Brittany Edwards caused a turnover and Ruskey took the ball coast-to-coast for the goal. Ruskey then scored a game-high four goals on Sunday in a lopsided defeat of St. Bonaventure. After the weekend, the freshman was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the third time this season.

VCU (6-8, 4-2 A-10) has been hot recently as well, winners of their last four. Their most recently game was an overtime victory over Davidson. Trailing 11-8 with 15:51 remaining, the Rams held Davidson scoreless the rest of the way as Sky Hyatt reeled off three unanswered goals to force overtime. Molly Barcikowski scored the game-winning goal just 39 seconds into the sudden-death overtime period.

Richmond (12-2, 6-0 A-10) has been the top team in the conference this season. The Spiders are one of two teams with an undefeated Atlantic 10 record. Their only overall losses have come to ranked opponents #16 Virginia and #3 James Madison. Katie Sciandra (52) and Kim Egizi (48) are the only two women in the conference with more goals than Edwards (42) and Ruskey (41). 

Action starts Friday at 5:00 PM against VCU and Sunday at noon against Richmond.
